Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026

In short: Rainglass does not collect personal data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your approximate location is used only for “Real weather” and goes directly to Apple Weather. Screen images used for the rain effect never leave your Mac.

1. Controller

The controller responsible for data processing under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:

Marco Ehinger
[Street and number]
[Postal code, city]
Germany
Email: support@ehinger.dev

2. The Rainglass app

2.1 Location and “Real weather”

Location is used only if you turn on Real weather and allow access to your location in macOS. Rainglass requests your approximate (reduced-accuracy) location and sends it directly from your Mac to Apple WeatherKit to retrieve the current weather – about every 15 minutes while the option is on. Rainglass does not store your location and does not send it to me or to any other third party. Apple processes this request under its own privacy policy.

Legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), given through the macOS permission. You can withdraw it at any time by turning off Real weather or in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.

2.2 Screen Recording

To show what is behind the glass inside the drops, Rainglass uses the macOS Screen Recording permission (ScreenCaptureKit). It captures your wallpaper or, in over-windows mode, the area beneath the drops. These images are processed only on your Mac, in its graphics memory. They are never saved and never transmitted. You can revoke the permission at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording.

2.3 Settings

Your settings (for example intensity, sound and mode) are stored locally on your Mac and are not transmitted.

2.4 No other connections

Apart from the weather request described above, Rainglass makes no network connections. It contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code. Links in the app (for example to the weather data sources or sound credits) open in your web browser.

2.5 Purchase, crash reports and App Store

Rainglass is distributed through the Mac App Store. Purchase, payment and downloads are handled by Apple; I receive no personal data about you, only aggregated sales figures. If you have agreed in macOS to share analytics with app developers, Apple may provide me with anonymized crash reports and usage statistics. Details are in Apple’s privacy policy.

3.1 Hosting and server log files

This website is hosted by [name and address of the hosting provider]. Each time you visit, the server automatically records information your browser transmits: IP address, date and time of the request, requested page, referrer URL, browser type and version, operating system and the amount of data transferred.

This is necessary to deliver the website and to ensure its security and stability. Legal basis is my legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The log files are deleted after [storage period according to the hosting provider, e.g. 7 days]. The hosting provider processes the data on my behalf under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR).

3.2 No cookies, no tracking

This website does not use cookies, analytics or tracking tools and loads no external resources such as fonts or scripts. Links to the App Store or to Apple take you to Apple’s websites, where Apple’s privacy policy applies.

4. Contact by email

If you write to me, I process your email address, your message and any attachments in order to answer your request. Legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR if your request concerns your purchase or use of Rainglass, and otherwise my legitimate interest in answering inquiries (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). I delete the correspondence once it is no longer needed, unless statutory retention periods require otherwise. Emails are stored with my email provider, who acts as a processor.

5. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

To exercise these rights, email support@ehinger.dev. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), in particular in the EU member state of your residence or of the alleged infringement.

I update this policy when the app or the website changes. The current version is always available on this page.
